Carmelita
CARMELITA UPDATE - April 2021!
Our darling girl Carmelita was in our Court Case Dog Program at Chicago Animal Care and Control for almost six months in 2017 while her owner fought to get her and her house siblings back. Carmelita was found tied up in a basement. She was underweight, full of fleas and was surrounded by feces. It was clear she was not being cared for, or even being fed, on a regular basis. At the young age of just one year old, she had already seen such terrible abuse and neglect, yet she handled everything that was thrown at her with such grace and forgiveness.
Carmelita was friendly with everyone at the shelter and was full of life and energy. She was always a total joy to be around and definitely a volunteer favorite. Once Carmelita became city property, our rescue partner Forget Me Not Animal Rescue, Inc NFP scooped her up. After about a year in her foster home, her mom couldn’t figure out why this people-, dog-, cat- and kid-friendly girl wasn’t getting any solid adoption interest other than it must be fate, so she decided to make it official.
Since being adopted by her foster family, Carmelita has helped welcome numerous other Court Case Dogs as fosters and has shown them the ropes of “living the good life.” Carmelita now goes by “Lita,” and her favorite things include playing with her dog siblings, playing fetch, squeaking her favorite toy nonstop and guzzling water from the hose.
“Lita never has a bad day, and she always lives life to the fullest, which is why I adore her so much. She is an awesome ‘pittie ambassador’ and living proof why you should never judge a dog based on their history because with a little love and good training they will be even greater dogs.” – Angela, Lita’s Mom
Lita’s new family is quite the sight. How her parents manage their crew is nothing short of amazing! We certainly know Carmelita will never be bored or unloved again. They truly are a rescue family and an inspiration to us all!
